The language I speak most often at home in Mumbai, India, is Marathi. That is just one of the scores of languages we have in my country. Your own native language may be English or Polish, German or Japanese. But when you and I paint, we understand each other perfectly, for we communicate in the universal language of water and light.

Seven-eights of every human body is water; the same sun shines down on whatever you are painting, wherever in the world you are; and when we master these natural elements, we experience the same joy. I have felt it over and over again while painting at various locations across India and, when I visited the US, in the San Francisco Bay Area.
